Feature Course of the Month – Primavera P6 for Practitioners
Primavera, meaning Italian for spring, quite appropriate that it is our May feature course of the month.
Over the last 10 years Primavera P6 project planning software has been increasing in popularity. Its roots actually go back to 1996 but it was not till probably about 2006 that it started to take hold as the tool of choice in some big industry sectors. Used heavily in the construction, rail and aerospace sectors it was used on the project to build the Olympic stadium when work started around 2008. As key contractors on the project needed to use it we saw the spread of its use and popularity.
Being an enterprise system, it allows organisations to get better visibility across all projects of project status, resource requirements and forward load.
People worry that the software is difficult to use. Yes it is different to things like Microsoft Project but provided you work in a structured way it is just a case of getting used to it.
Our Primavera P6 for Practitioners course is a comprehensive guide to using the tool. It looks at proper structuring of projects including building a WBS, creating an activity network, proper logic linking and resourcing. It looks at best practice planning and scheduling techniques and once you have built your plan how to monitor, control and report out on it. Using the tool will not make you a good planner, but knowing how to use the tool will enable a good planner to get the most out of it.
So why come on our course, when there are lots of options out there? We write all our own courses and materials meaning we can put in the key topics and things we feel are important to people. It also means that we can continuously update and improve our courses based on your feedback. We are a passionate and enthusiastic team and enjoy working with organisations to really understand how they operate and support them to get the best use of the tool. We are really proud to have won the UK Oracle User Group Primavera and Oracle Projects Partner of the Year 2016/17. This was voted for by our Primavera customers and delegates so means a lot to us that people feel our services are valued.
